OUTDOOR EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR (PART-TIME)
LOCATION
Point Fermin Outdoor Education Center (Located San Pedro, CA)
DUTIES
-
Instruct LAUSD students during their visit to science camp near the sea! Point Fermin OEC serves elementary, middle and high school students for 3-day/2-night adventure outings (Mon-Wed or Wed-Fri)

Create and implement guided activities
-
Instruct students in NGSS standards-based program curriculum

Lead team building activities, games, crafts and songs
-
Model and counsel students in appropriate behavior
-
Ensure the health and safety of students
-
Promote a positive team atmosphere

Assist with unloading and/or loading of student luggage
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS
-
You MUST enjoy working with children (4th-12th grades) and have a sincere desire to make their science camp visit as exciting and memorable as possible

Minimum 18 years old and high school graduate or GED
-
Commit to working the entire school year (August 2021 – June 2022)

Able to pass FBI and DOJ background checks; willing to be TB tested
-
Willing to be certified in First Aid and CPR
-
Previous experience working with children in a formal work setting preferred
-
Priority given to applicants with teaching experience, particularly in natural sciences

Able to supervise up to 20 students with minimal supervision

Able to safely lead and instruct student groups on city walks to visit local attractions and points of interest (1 to 3 miles roundtrip)

Access to consistent, reliable transportation

Program staff assume the responsibility of parents/caregivers in what is often a child's first experience away from home and family - they are leaders, friends, teachers, problem solvers, mediators, expectation upholders and, most importantly, positive role models for students
SHIFT & COMPENSATION

3-day/2-night weekly shifts available: Mon 9:30 a.m. to Wed 12:30 p.m. or Wed 12 p.m. to Fri 1 p.m.; various breaks throughout the shift

Instructors are paid 24 hours each shift at $20.71 per hour (~$497 per shift)

This is a part-time temporary classified position; accrued sick days; no holiday or vacation pay
