TRAVELING OUTDOOR EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR (PART-TIME)
LOCATION
Point Fermin Outdoor Education Center (Located San Pedro, CA)
DUTIES

  • Skyhook Eco-Vans is a mobile science education program that operates during regular school hours. Traveling instructors, working in pairs, drive vans from San Pedro to elementary and middle schools throughout Los Angeles Unified School District and lead NGSS standards-based science and engineering design lessons with K-8th students. Each of 4 vans visits a different school daily Mon-Thu.

  • Lead team mindfulness activities and games

  • Model and counsel students in appropriate behavior

  • Ensure the safety of program participants

  • Promote a positive team atmosphere

  • Stock, clean and wash Eco-Vans

  • Wash or disinfect program materials daily following activities; prepare additional materials as needed

  • Coordinate with classroom teachers and/or school administrators while on school sites

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS

  • You MUST enjoy working with children and have a sincere desire to teach

  • Minimum 25 years of age (Insurance requirement for District vehicles) 

  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License and clean driving record

  • Proof of automobile liability insurance

  • Commit to working the entire school year (August-June)

  • Able to pass FBI and DOJ background check; willing to be TB tested

  • Willing to be certified in First Aid and CPR

  • Able to supervise and instruct up to 20 students with minimal supervision

  • Previous experience working with children in a formal work setting preferred

  • Priority given to applicants with teaching experience, particularly in natural sciences

  • Concern for equity and diversity and creating a safe space for all

  • Consistently perform with a high level of responsibility and integrity

  • Access to consistent, reliable transportation

SHIFT & COMPENSATION

  • 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Mon-Thu (includes 1/2 hr. lunch break)

  • Instructors are paid 7 hours per day at $20.71 per hour

  • This is a part-time temporary classified position; accrued sick days; no holiday or vacation pay

  • Paid training and ongoing access to LAUSD’s Professional Learning Network and Organizational Excellence Training
