DAY OF DISCOVERY: BATTLESHIP USS IOWA

The Beyond the Bell Office of Outdoor and Environmental Education, in collaboration with the USS IOWA, proudly offers A Day of Discovery at USS IOWA Battleship. Students and staff from all LAUSD schools are eligible to participate. Academic content will be introduced via the Engineering Design Process and Scientific Inquiry Cycle.

The USS Iowa, a much-celebrated World War II era battleship affectionately nicknamed the “Big Stick”, will provide a crucial real world opportunity for students to apply the content and newly acquired skill sets in meaningful and relevant ways.

 KEY INFORMATION:

  • Currently being offered Mondays & Wednesdays (except for holidays)

  • Focus on anticipated Next Generation Science Standards

  • Grades 3 - 12

  • Capacity of 50 - 65 attendance required (students + adults)

  • No entrance fee! ($15 per person fee is waived)

  • Arrive at 9:30 am, depart at 1:00 pm

  • Schools must provide transportation and lunch

  • Program operates year round
